General Info
Albert Hsiao, MD, PhD, is a board-certified radiologist who specializes in cardiac and vascular imaging primarily using CT scans and MRIs to diagnose and improve care for patients with a range of cardiovascular conditions, including congenital heart disease, mitral and tricuspid valve disease, cardiomyopathy and coronary artery disease. He also applies advanced imaging techniques to help patients with myocardial infarction, iron overload, aortic stenosis, aortic aneurysm, aortic dissection, vasculitis, peripheral arterial disease, deep venous thrombosis and thoracic outlet syndrome.Although most of his patients are adults, he accepts referrals for pediatric patients with congenital heart disease.Dr. Hsiao is associate director of Cardiovascular Diseases for the Center for Translational Imaging and Precision Medicine at UC San Diego Health. As an assistant professor in the Department of Radiology, Dr. Hsiao instructs medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. His research focuses on making cardiac and vascular imaging more automated, more accurate and more data driven. His laboratory is currently developing and applying 4D flow MRI to visualize blood flow through the heart, as well as the hearts structure, simultaneously. This type of advanced imaging, combined with computer-aided graphics, can be used to diagnose and intervene earlier in cardiovascular disease and cancer. It can also help inform surgeons of what needs to be repaired, or it may show that surgery is unnecessary. Dr. Hsiao completed fellowship training in cardiovascular imaging and vascular and interventional radiology, as well as residency training in diagnostic radiology, at Stanford University School of Medicine. He earned a medical degree at UC San Diego School of Medicine and a doctorate in bioengineering at UC San Diego. He is board-certified in diagnostic radiology.
